About Aadhaar Photo Guidelines Requirements
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Unlike traditional documents that accept pre-printed photographs from applicants, Aadhaar enforces strict biometric integrity through live on-site facial photograph capture.
During enrolment or biometric update appointments at an authorized Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK), the certified enrolment operator captures the applicant’s photograph directly using a digital webcam. The UIDAI system performs real-time quality and face-detection checks according to standard biometric guidelines.
Because UIDAI does not accept pre-edited external photographs for Aadhaar generation, applicants do not need to prepare or upload a custom digital photo for standard Aadhaar issuance. If you wish to update an outdated photograph, you must visit an authorized Aadhaar centre in person for live recapture.
